Rental Requirements

Anyone who plans on renting a vehicle should bring the following:
  • A copy of your driver’s license
  • Proof of insurance
  • Credit or debit card

Insurance and Coverage

All Renters / Drivers should have an active Automobile Liability Insurance Policy. For business use, all renters / drivers should provide proof of auto liability insurance for hired autos / non-owned autos. Another option is an American Express card, this program is called Premium Car Rental Protection which is available directly from American Express and this provides coverage for your rental vehicle.

Credit Card Insurance Coverage

Many major credit card companies do cover car rentals in the event of an accident. Some do not, so it is the renters responsibility to contact the credit card carrier to see if coverage is provided in the event of a accident. Most major credit cards such as Mastercard, American Express, Visa, and Discover have car rental insurance available at no charge as a courtesy to you. American Express also has a higher level of insurance available, it’s called Premium Car Rental Protection. We recommend it very highly. In most instances, credit card carriers do not cover luxury vans or 12 and 15 passenger van rentals.

Security Deposit

A deposit may be required depending on qualifications.

Mileage / Additional Costs

All car rentals, van rentals and truck rentals come with at least 100 free miles per day. Inquire about our unlimited mile packages (available with our Corporate Program), some restrictions apply. Nineteen (19) cents per mile after free miles.

No Towing Allowed

We do not reserve any vehicle with a tow hitch.

Underage Drivers

Drivers under 25 years of age may be subject to a daily surcharge, contact us for details.


Our policy for refueling is very simple. Please return the vehicle with the same fuel level as when you took the vehicle out. The fuel level amount will be printed on your rental contract.

Driving Area Restrictions

Every customer has different needs. For long distance travelers, let us know where you will travel to so we put together a package that fits your needs.

Additional Drivers

There is a maximum of one (1) additional driver that can be added to a rental contract unless approved by a manager. Additional drivers are also recognized as if they are the principal driver and must have their own liability or CDW insurance from a credit card. The person responsible for payment will be named on the rental contract, even if that person will not be driving. No additional drivers will be removed from the contract after the vehicle leaves our office. All additional drivers are responsible for the vehicle until the vehicle is returned.

Damaged Glass, Tires and Rims

The renter is fully responsible for all glass, tire, wheel and hubcap damage during the rental. Whether the tire and wheel were damaged by road hazard, driver error, or a blowout, the renter will be held responsible and charged for any expenses to repair the vehicle or replace the tire or related components. Unfortunately, there are road hazards, but we cannot assume responsibility for the damage caused rims and tires, please be aware of road hazards while operating your rental vehicle.

After Hours Return

Continental Rent A Car does have a drop box for after hour returns. Prior approval required.

Late / Overtime Fee

All rental vehicles are calculated by a 24-hour period. There is a one hour grace period, but if you exceed the 24-hour period by more than one hour, a per hour late charge will apply to each hour late, starting from the first late hour, until you reach the daily rate. Per hour rate is calculated as your daily rate, which is established on the rental agreement, divided into a 24-hour period. When the total late fee reaches the additional day rate, you will be charged only an additional day.


If you decide to take pets along for the ride, please keep in mind you should get some sort of protective cover such as a dog blanket and keep your pet confined to that area. A $100.00 cleaning and shampoo fee will be charged if pet hairs are found on the seats. Should you have questions about this policy, feel free to contact us.


The renter is responsible for all parking, traffic, speeding or other tickets or violations issued while the vehicle is being rented and must pay for any fees, penalties, towing charges, or impound costs.

Gas / Refueling

Our rental rates do not include the cost of fuel. We usually start you out with a half or full tank of gas. We request that our customers refill prior to their return. You should be aware that a refueling cost will apply if the vehicle is returned with less gas than indicated on the rental agreement.

Payment Due

Full authorization / payment is due at the time of rental. Authorizations at time of rental- for credit card rentals, charged upon return or extension. Payment at time of rental for check card rentals.

Continental Rent A Car accepts the following methods of payment: VISA, Master Card, AMEX, Discover, Debit Card (MOST), Company Account. NO PREPAID CARDS ACCEPTED
